Ãtma Quartet was founded in 2016 and since then it has won some significant awards, including the third prize at Karol Szymanowski International Music Competition, and participated in master classes and international festivals.   The quartet will present music from its debut album released in 2019, which is entirely comprised of the repertoire of Polish composers. A. Panufnik titled his String Quartet no. 3, composed in 1990, ‘Wycinanka’ (Paper-cut), to emphasize its symbolic link with Polish folk art. However, the work does not contain any folk themes or motifs. K. Szymanowski, on the other hand, did not shy away from incorporating folk themes into his music. This also applies to his String Quartet no. 2, considered to be one of the most avant-garde compositions in all of the artist’s oeuvre. K. Penderecki called his String Quartet no. 3 a Pages of an Unwritten Diary. This reflexive and somewhat autobiographical composition refers to the tradition of classical quartets of Haydn, Beethoven and Bartok.
