Kimmo Rahunen – guitar
Arto Järvelä – nyckelharp, fiddle, vocal
This concert will present an unusual blend of Nordic folk with classical and film music.
The Finnish cello and guitar duo we have invited will perform together with one of Finland’s most distinguished virtuosos of folk violin. We will thus have an opportunity to admire their superb skill and rich musical programme on the open-air stage at Bulwar Filadelfijski: a selection of musical pieces by Finnish composers and arrangements of film themes prepared specially for this event from such memorable films as Schindler’s List, Fargo, Crouching Tiger & Hidden Dragon, and Sayonara.
Established in 2015 to mark the 150th birth anniversary of the Finnish composer Jean Sibelius, the trio composed of Duo Vitare and Arto Järvelä, have been well received from their very first performances, while their programme ‘The Waltz of Ainola – Sibelius inspired by Folk’ has won great acclaim in both Poland and Finland. Encouraged by the musical potential resulting from their cooperation in playing folk and classical music, the trio has decided to start performing on a regular basis.
Arto Järvelä, a member of a dozen folk ensembles for over thirty years (especially of the remarkable JPP ensemble), is a multi-talented virtuoso multi-instrumentalist and composer, arranging and composing also for his performances with Duo Vitare. The repertoire of the trio also includes Polish and Finnish folk music as well as arrangements of compositions by J. Sibelius.
