5th August (Saturday), 8pm – Great Hall of the Artus Court
Admission free with prior reservation

The Piano Quartet InterEST was formed in 2016 in Estonia’s capital, Tallin. The musical ensemble has a traditional repertoire, which also includes Estonian music and works by contemporary composers. All its members study at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre in Tallin; they also studied in such places abroad as Lausanne, Berlin and Vienna. Prizewinners of country-wide and international competitions, they have played as soloists with numerous orchestras in Estonia and other countries.

The programme will consist of selected works by two eminent Estonian composers and the Piano Quartet in E-flat major op. 47 by Robert Schumann.

Eduard Tubin is known primarily for his symphonic works (in this respect, his accomplishments are often mentioned in the same breath with those by such masters as Sibelius and Shostakovitch) as well as for his compositions for choir, concertos for solo instruments and chamber music.

Erkki-Sven Tüür is one of Estonia’s most popular living composers, who is involved also in the field of entertainment music. A magnificent example of his work, one which corresponds to the idea of our festival, is the composition ‘Archtectonics 7’ which will have its world premiere in Toruń.

The concert will end with the Piano Quartet in E-flat major op. 47 by Robert Schumann, whose musical orderly form is coupled with a strong emotional component. The most splendid and spacious hall in the Artus Court will resound with the pulsating rhythms of this deftly composed light scherzo, with the rich cello cantilena theme and the tour de force of the final rondo, imbued with tumultuous airs characteristic of Romanticism.
