8th July (Saturday), 8 pm, Great Hall of the Artus Court
Tickets: 25/20 PLN (BUY TICKET)

The recital ‘Around the Baltic Sea with songs’ is directed at the Romantic music lovers, particularly fond of intricately lyrical vocal music from that period.

The Romantic song is an extraordinary musical form of the nineteenth century, a period of its intense development as music to be performed to piano accompaniment. The matchless composer and the originator of Romantic musical pieces for solo voices was undoubtedly Franz Schubert, whose oeuvre includes over 600 compositions in this genre. The festival concert will present not only several songs composed by him, but also by such notable continuators as Robert Schumann and other composers, whose work is better known for instrumental music, including Jean Sibelius, Pyotr Tschaikovsky and Sergey Rachmaninov.

On the occasion of the hundredth anniversary of Finland’s proclamation of independence, we have invited two artists from that country: the baritone Aarne Pelkonen and the pianist Juho Alakärppä, both of whom graduated from the prestigious Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. The musicians have won numerous prizes in widely recognised competitions in Germany, Finland and the Netherlands.

The concert is organised under the patronage of Tadeusz Pająk, the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Finland in Toruń.
