Come to a musical meeting for children, where the violin will ‘play the first fiddle’. The violin is the instrument of the famous Raftsman, whose monument is located at the market square in Toruń. According to the most famous of Toruń’s legends, it is the beautiful sound of the Raftsman’s violin that led the frogs tormenting the residents of Toruń out of the city. During the programme, children will become acquainted with the sound of the instrument, its structure and techniques of playing, and they will also become familiar with the works of great masters who wrote compositions for this instrument. The Raftsman himself will appear on the stage and the concert will be accompanied by stories about his adventures.

This year’s edition of two festival meetings with a guide will be devoted to organ music, in whose rich history also our region, Kuyavia and Chełmno Land, have played their part. The participants of the meeting will have an opportunity to learn about selected Toruń organs and compare them to other instruments located in the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship.

A documentary presenting the portrait of Karalina Orsik-Sauter, a viola player from Atma Quartet, the concert of which will be played in the Artus Court in Toruń exactly one week before the lecture, i.e. on July 13th. The film tells the story of a young artist, an immigrant from Belarus. It vividly describes the fate of immigrants from this country together with their longing for home, family and friends. Karalina’s journey to visit her grandmother, who lives in a deserted Belarusian village of Akhanyany, becomes a journey down the memory lane to the land of her childhood.

During his recital, with the accompaniment by Aleksandra Seredyńska, we will hear a series of songs composed by K. Szymanowski (from Op. 11) and F. Liszt’s Sonnets for poetry by Petrarch. In the Year of Moniuszko, the artists will also present a selection of songs by this composer. The recital will conclude with Italian music, including the spectacular and expressive Neapolitan song Marechiare, followed by no less famous Musica proibita by M.S.L. Gastaldon.

‘The Million Dollar Hotel’ is a story about a group of misfits in downtown Los Angeles, where two realities clash: a day of the successful contemporary people and a night controlled by the so-called social margin. The film’s soundtrack includes songs by U2, and the script is based on a short story written by BONO, the leader of the band.

The concert will feature some of the most famous piano works performed by young, talented artists from all over the world. Every year, the Piano Paderewski Academy is attended by a growing number of young elite pianists from Europe, Asia and America. Young virtuosos who qualified for the concert will present selected parts of piano concertos by Mozart, Chopin, Saint-Saëns and Brahms, with the accompaniment of Toruń Symphony Orchestra conducted by Jakub Chrenowicz.
