20th International Festival “Nova Music and Architecture”

Home »  20th International Festival “Nova Music and Architecture”

For the twentieth edition of our summer festival – Nova Music and Architecture – we have prepared an extraordinary repertoire to celebrate this jubilee and invited a host of eminent musicians from all over the world.

The opening ceremony will take place in the open air on the Old Market Square with the performance of Marzena Ugorna, who will present symphonic arrangements of some of the best blues hits.

For the first time in the festival’s tradition, apart from the Toruń Symphony Orchestra, we will listen to brilliant performances of other orchestras: from Ukraine, Korea and Płock. We will also host Poland’s most distinguished ensemble specialising in early music – Arte dei Suonatori. The unique project of mixing the most famous pieces by Jan Sebastian Bach with Latino music played with conventional instruments will be presented in our new concert hall at CKK Jordanki. The cathedral will become the venue for the concert of gospel music performed by the Black International Gospel Singers, while St Stephen’s Church will resound with violin and organ music played by artists from Finland. In keeping with our tradition, the skills of the young participants of the Paderewski Piano Academy will be presented in the Artus Court. On the last Sunday of August we will be listening to Natalia Kukulska, who will sing to the accompaniment of Atom String Quartet, one of the top string quartets in the world, and Michał Dąbrówka, a leading Polish drummer. The finale will take the form of a tournament: it will be a great pleasure for music lovers to listen to the rivalry of tenors. Other festival events include free film screenings and thematic guided tours aimed to present the musical aspects of the monuments of Toruń.

I wish to thank all who have contributed to the organisation of this year’s festival and hope that you will enjoy and appreciate its artistic value.
